Seemingly, the next generation of the BMW X5 can hit the roads sooner than it was with the previous generations. The typical seven-year lifespan is now paid down to five years and the 2018 BMW X5 can be the fourth-generation entry. The prototype of the upcoming X5 was identified on a few situations with the thin camouflage which hides most of details but it is obvious that new X5 will feature more dynamic external design. The model will also be built on the top of the new, larger but lighter platform and can offer the range of upgraded diesel and petrol engines. The Bavarian brand will more than likely please the fans with the M-badged variation but the plug-in hybrid is also planned. BMW will also improve interior comfort and update electronics.
2018 BMW X5: LARGER BUT LIGHTER AND MORE AGGRESSIVE-LOOKING
Knowing by the contours hidden under the thin layer of camo, the new 2018 BMW X5 will sport more dynamic look than the ongoing version. Clearly, visual changes on the new technology X5 are not radical but body lines appear to be more processed and smoother though some areas are more strongly styled. The model could have pronounced nose and larger variation of the kidney grille. The roofline also generally seems to drop somewhat faster and rear spoiler also extends it putting sportier feel. The new X5 will even have a more sculpted tailgate and dual fatigue stores in the rear bumper.
However, a more dynamic look just hides more important changes that occurred under the refreshed sheet metal. The basis of the new X5 is a modular CLAR platform that debuted on the 7-Series sedan. This modular architecture is structured from the lightweight combo of aluminum, carbon fiber strengthened polymer and high-tensile steel which guarantee increased energy and rigidity. However, despite the X5 will be somewhat larger, modern design of the platform will make it lighter. Consequences will be seen on model’s makeup and performance but the new platform also means replaced electronics and safety features.
Interior of the model will even experience makeover. The more comfortable journey will be provided thanks to the larger body. The cabin design will also feature refreshed resources and cuts but familiar horizontal-oriented dash design and other factors won’t run much from the current variation and BMW’s vehicle line.
The new technology X5 will even get upgraded infotainment system and their functions but BMW should also follow the latest traits in the safety aspect. BMW will, of course, equip this model with loads of comfort enchantments and other luxuries but more we will know nearer to model’s debut.
2018 BMW X5: POWERTRAINS
Under the hood department will get upgraded engine versions with improved performance and efficiency. Relying on the market, the 2018 BMW X5 can occur with the new designs of the 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines. The model can utilize the new B-family of engines. The 2.0-liter turbo diesel units will be available on the Old Continent in sDrive25d and xDrive25d configurations. The 30d and 40d models will get the new B47 units. The xDrive35i variation can evolve to xDrive40i with the new B58 engine. The twin-turbo V-8 can again be employed. We must also expect the M performance version to follow the regular version. The plug-in hybrid is also in the plan.
Unfortuitously, BMW hasn’t claimed what level of improvement in performance and effectiveness might new engines provide. In regards to the US variation, we expect the 3.0-liter petrol to jump from 300 hp to around 325 hp. The diesel engine won’t likely feature such level of improvement. The twin-turbo V-8 may likely remain around 445 hp but BMW might add a new access four-cylinder engine option.
2018 BMW X5: ARRIVAL, PRICE
The new 2018 BMW X5 is expected in late 2017. Price changes won’t be radical.
