The 2017 Kia Niro is Kia’s newest improvement for their line-up of successful vehicles. Unique about it is that it’s the first actual subcompact cross-over they offer. Of course, they have the Sportage and Sorento, but these are both full-sized SUVs and are exactly what makes the subcompact cross-over therefore popular. It’s a car that appears like an SUV, but does not come with the same measurement, weight and frankly, price.
The cool and electric 2016 Kia Soul is actually the closest thing Kia presents for a cross-over. But, that one speaks to only a small portion of the public, because of its cool appearance.
All in all, it’s more than time for Kia to really join the subcompact crossover market and their Niro model will be a fine prospect for a spot. Also, the 2017 Kia Niro is a hybrid model, actually putting some interesting price to this new crossover.
2017 Kia Niro Exterior design
The car was officially unveiled at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show and according to Kia’s vice president solution planning with a design “that does not shout hybrid&rdquo ;.We think the VP is talking about the likes of the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime’s lack of aesthetics and the Prius-inspired, yet less big and bulky 2017 Hyundai Ioniq. But, we question if the VP received the memo about not totally all hybrids looking like that anymore.
Anyhow, the 2017 Kia Niro does look great, although not so interesting or groundbreaking. The front of the car features that recognizable tiger-nose grille, which is quite huge in comparison to different Kia vehicles sporting it. Then there are the headlights, a pair of sharp pointed, somewhat straight units. The foglights are positioned on the lower part of the vehicle on a dark air port with two magic sides embellishing them. Ultimately, there are two straight air ports at sometimes side of the car front, correct in-front of the wheels.
The side distinguishes it self by showing a standard SUV profile. Over the side windows a chrome line is added and the lower door systems have a deep crease over it. The wheel arches are perfectly round and are a dark plastic material. That’s a shame, we think the 2017 Kia Niro could have seemed far better if there were body coloured wheel arches.
In the rear we see some design cues formerly discovered on the Kia Sportage. The small rear window and certificate plate room and large located taillights are quite recognizable as such. New elements consist of taillight design, tailgate spoiler and body-coloured fender part with metal inserts.
Ultimately, there is a choice of seven outer colours!
2017 Kia Niro Interior design
The interior looks clean and clutterfree, not an simple thing to get right. But, like the exterior, the interior isn’t very interesting, which is not a particularly poor thing given that it does really suffice. Most significant in the cabin are the contemporary look with shiny black and bright positions and a minimized dashboard. Then, there’s the instrument bunch, which brings a bit more spruce to the interior.
Ultimately, the infotainment screen is nice and big, only like the door systems and middle console. The screen gives up to 7 inch and is a charm to operate. Furthermore, the cabin has been thoroughly protected to stop any pain of engine, street or tire noise.
2017 Kia Niro Engine specs
Given that the 2017 Kia Niro is an HUV, or Hybrid Utility Vehicle, there will be a combination of a traditional engine and an electric motor and battery under the hood. The battery is actually based underneath the rear seat floor. The gasoline engine present in the car is a 1.6 liter Kappa four cylinder engine, great for 103 horsepower. The electric motor is a 43 horsepower unit and is powered by a 1.56 kWh lithium-polymer battery.
Complete output of both the motor and engine comes to 143 horsepower and is coupled to a high performance six rate dual clutch transmission and all wheel push system. The choice for these high tech elements comes from the wish expressed by Kia to generate and “un-hybrid” driving experience. Though it saddens us a bit to know a car manufacturer talk smack about eco-friendly vehicles, we have to admit this is an idea that might live among a larger portion of the public as well.
Oh properly, as long as this approach gets some of the unwilling public on the eco bandwagon, we’re all for this!
Oh effectively, as long as this strategy gets some of the unwilling public on the eco camp, we are all because of it!
2017 Kia Niro Tech specs
The software for running the infotainment system is the latest version of the award-winning UVO technology, earlier present in the tech specs of the unique and upscale 2017 Kia Sportage. The system presents connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Besides that, there are the UVO eServices, consisting of fourteen telematics solutions, Wi-Fi, applications like Soundhound and Pandora and 8 GB of music storage.
Then, Kia hasn’t forgotten the advanced driver assistance and convenience technologies. The standard range of Blind Place Checking with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Street Modify Aid and Sophisticated Sail Control. Eventually, there are the likes of Lane Departure Warning and Autonomous Disaster Braking. All the aforementioned features produce this car a semi-autonomous vehicle and the best part is: Kia hasn’t stopped there!
Another software package standard on the 2017 Kia Niro is called Eco-DAS, which stands for Driver Assistance System. Kia presents their first accept Coasting Guide and Predictive Power Control. Coasting Guide will make sure maximum gas economy is achieved by actually telling the driver when to shore and brake. This is a feature that may frighten off some individuals, but may can be found in handy when you’re operating out of gas and battery life.
Then there is Predictive Power Get a handle on, which uses the navigation Program and cruise get a grip on to estimate changes in street quality, ascension and decension to definitely manage energy. This way it could autonomously choose when is the most useful time and energy to recharge the battery and when to release stored energy to optimize the car’s total efficiency.
